This article examines how Kazakhstan exercises global leadership in international relations. By analysing Astana's foreign policy initiatives in the areas of nuclear and environmental security, this article seeks to explain how Kazakhstan has employed its power and diplomatic resources to influence global affairs in accordance with its vision and interests. Based on the study of two cases with the analysis of documentary sources, this article demonstrates that Kazakhstan adopted a three-pronged leadership strategy by projecting itself as a role model, initiator, and mediator.
