Direct elections of rural akims: necessity and problems

In accordance with the new requirements, direct elections of mayors of rural districts were held for the first time in 2021. The population expects great results from direct elections of rural akims. Based on the results of a sociological survey, the article examines the procedural issues of holding direct elections and the problems that have arisen in this regard. The recommendations developed based on the results of the study are aimed not only at improving the process of holding direct elections of rural akims, but also at further development of the institute of local self-government. The results of the study can be used in organizing the next stages of the elections of rural mayors and the elections of mayors of districts and cities of regional significance.
