Abstract

The collapse of the Soviet Union and the formation of new independent states have led to a fundamental change in the situation in the use of transboundary water resources in Central Asia. Acting for decades mechanism of mutual interests of all Central Asian republics was destroyed. This article discusses the key factors determining the policy of the Central Asian countries in the field of water resources and its distribution among countries of the region. Much attention is paid to the legal regulation of the use of water resources of transboundary rivers in the region, as well as the definition of problems that hinder the establishment of a sustainable mechanism for multilateral cooperation.
