The evolution of USA policy in the post-Soviet space

American policy towards post-Soviet countries was formed gradually. After the Soviet collapse in late 1991, the United States began to develop and implement foreign policy toward the new independent States.
Interest in post-Soviet countries by the American state structures were determined the long-term interests of the United States, as well as the geopolitical importance of the countries located on the territory of the former USSR. The article considers the main stages of U.S. policy toward post-Soviet countries, analyzing their characteristics, explores the challenges which have been addressed in U.S. foreign policy. Much attention is paid to Russian-American relations, which continue to have a key influence on the development of the post- Soviet space. Despite the considerable period that has passed since the collapse of the USSR in the post- Soviet countries there are no works devoted to a comprehensive analysis of U.S. foreign policy toward former Soviet republics.
