The work is devoted to the problems of the lack of private investment in the development of the water and energy complex in Central Asia. The results of the economic development of the Central Asian countries in the period from 2000 to 2021 are analyzed. The problems existing in this industry, the reasons that may have a negative impact on the economic development of the Central Asian region, and the points of economic growth of these countries are identified. The impact of Afghanistan on the provision of water to the countries located in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya River is considered. It has been established that in the countries of Central Asia, investments in the development of the water and energy sector are mainly at the expense of public sources. In conclusion, the authors of the work give practical recommendations aimed at changing the situation to eliminate problems in the water and energy sector of Central Asia in accordance with the topic of the work by stimulating the attraction of funds from private investors and increasing the investment attractiveness of the water sector of the countries of the Central Asian region.
