Abstract

This study examines the relationship between social capital and institutional trust in Kazakhstan using data from the World Values Survey (Wave 7). Drawing on chi-square analyses, the findings reveal that trust in government and parliament is predominantly associated with bonding values, particularly the importance of family, religion, and interpersonal trust. Indicators of bridging social capital, such as charitable giving, tax compliance, and organizational membership, display weaker and more inconsistent effects. Importantly, trust in government is stronger than in parliament, underscoring an asymmetry characteristic of centralized systems. The results of highlight the persistence of traditional values in shaping political trust and governance in Kazakhstan.
