Abstract

In 2020-2021, during the quarantine associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, Kazakhstani consumers began to make massive purchases via the internet.  Along with such benefits as the convenience of not having to leave home or interact with people in person, as well as being able to compare prices, choosing and ordering ready-made food, groceries, and other products, the Kazakhstani consumer was also faced with problems returning goods, whether defective or not, and even internet fraud.  Neither the state, nor the consumer, were prepared for the emerging realities of online trading. Increasing cases of consumer rights violations in eCommerce were a sign of the lack in consumer protection.  This is now being looked at, with recommendations on how to effectively improve the rights of Kazakhstani consumers.
