The article provides an overview of the initial stages of the spread of the threat of religious extremism and terrorism in the states of Central Asia. Also, the article pays special attention to the consideration of the process of development of measures implemented in the Republic of Kazakhstan aimed at countering the problem of religious extremism and terrorism. Based on the analysis of legal acts, state institutions, principles, and approaches of the state policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the article discusses the significant aspects and features of the development of a system to counter the ideology of religious extremism and terrorism. In particular, the article describes the process of improving the legislation and the ongoing state policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of countering religious extremism and terrorism. At the same time, the article presents the results of the study in relation to further and promising areas for improving state policy.
