This article analyzes the role of cities and megalopolis in the global political system. Globalization promotes the emergence of new actors in international relations, among which cities and megalopolis play a special role. The issues of sustainable urban development are considered. An overview of the historical development of cities was given and their role in the system of civilization of international relations was described. Within the framework of this article, the importance of "urban diplomacy" as an instrument of the system of international relations was also considered.
City diplomacy is a relatively new phenomenon but has become increasingly important in recent years. Cities are now seen as important actors in global governance and play a key role in shaping the policies that affect their citizens. The main goal of city diplomacy is to promote the interests of cities and their citizens in the international arena.
